In April, APW celebrates its 20th Anniversary with 10 million customers
For the past 20 years, APW has been providing affordable and quality fuel and products to customers and businesses in Sydney. Servicing over 10 million customers, APW has become a household name in the industry.
Founded by Bill, APW was created as a solution to the frustration of overpriced fuel. The company’s goal was to offer consistently cheaper pricing without compromising on quality. Today, APW has surpassed its goals and has achieved several significant milestones in the past two decades.
One of the most significant milestones was in 2008 when the company broke away from the branding and supply contract of a major fuel company to launch its own brand. This was a bold move that paved the way for APW to outperform the majors consistently.
Over the years, the company has evolved and adapted to changing market forces, making it an agile operation. Maintaining ethical relationships within the industry has proven to ensure that supply and pricing stay stable and competitive, making APW an outlier in the industry.
APW is also known for pioneering the support of 18-year-old racing car talent, Jett Johnson, grandson of Dick Johnson, encouraging and getting behind motor racing sports in the community. Bill’s unwavering passion for autosports motivates him to stay deeply engaged with the autosport community.
Despite the challenges brought by COVID-19, APW was able to weather the storm and continues to support the community. In 2019, the company has implemented a suite of end-to-end programs to ensure the safety and well-being of employees and its customers, including safety screens, personal protective equipment, and social distancing markers.
As a responsible member of the community, APW has also implemented the strictest environmental standards, making it one of the first locations in the greater Sydney area to exceed the strict Vapour Recovery 2 responsibilities. This initiative will reduce VOC emissions from service stations by approximately 5000 tonnes each year.
Bill’s advice to entrepreneurs starting out is to understand their space and the fundamentals of the business. Once they get started, they’ll develop a deeper understanding of the industry and gain a perspective that can help them develop their craft. Being brave when starting out is essential, and self-belief will come naturally as they see themselves succeed.
